This class is mainly focused on wheel-throwing technique. In this term class, you will learn all the basics of how to use a potter’s wheel. From wedging clay, centring the clay onto the wheel, throwing, trimming, applying underglaze, and glazing it yourself. We will practice two portraits -- one in grisaille (monochrome), where there will be a strong focus on tone and form, and another using a limited palette, where we will introduce colour concepts. In this hands-on workshop, children will design and build their own 3D garden using colourful pipe cleaners and 3D printed decorations. They will create a small potted plant by twisting their favourite colours, then craft a little animal as its companion, combining both into a mini garden scene. If they like, their animal can also be turned into a keychain to take home. Split Day Play is a full-day workshop where Michelle our tutor will guide your young artists through building skills in the morning and creating their own project in the afternoon. It’s designed especially for beginners and those just starting their clay journey — a balanced day of learning, movement and creative freedom.\
\
In the morning, we will introduce core hand-building techniques . We will explore pinch, coiling and slab building in practical, hands-on ways, building confidence as we go. Students will experiment with texture tools, pattern and simple surface design so they can get comfortable with the material and experience early success.\
\
Michelle will facilitate the day in a friendly, calm and supportive way, demonstrating each stage. The aim is to create a studio environment where everyone feels safe to try, ask questions and learn through doing. Mistakes are part of the process, and each child is encouraged to work at their own pace.\
\
We take breaks for morning tea and lunch outdoors, giving everyone time to run, reset and enjoy fresh air before returning to the studio focused and ready to create.\
\
Before lunch, we spend time drawing and planning ideas. In the afternoon, students design and build their own clay piece — functional or sculptural — applying the skills they’ve practiced earlier in the day. This independent making time builds problem-solving skills, resilience and pride in completing something from start to finish.\
\
By the end of the workshop, students leave having created a piece ready for firing, then glaze firing and having learned stronger technical skills and the confidence that comes from making something with their own hands.

Deep in the enchanted forest, tiny gnomes are searching for new homes… and they need your help! In this enchanting holiday art class, children will sculpt their very own ceramic gnome home from clay. They can add crooked doors, round windows, mushroom roofs, secret pathways, and all the tiny details a gnome could dream of.

Join Liam Addison as he teaches your child how to shoot a movie scene. The class will be split up into various roles including, Camera, Sound and Acting to shoot a movie scene together! At the end, the class will get to see the basic editing process and watch their final shot movie scene!

Little Movie Makers with Liam Addison 

In this hands-on workshop, children explore how 3D printing and mechanical design work by building their own moving robot companion. They will examine real printed parts, learn how layered structures create strength, and design custom modular components such as armor plates or creative attachments using a mix of 3D printed pieces and mixed materials. In the afternoon, participants assemble and wire their robotic base, test its movement, and upgrade it through collaborative challenges that encourage problem-solving and teamwork. Each child takes home a personalised 3D robot they have engineered and brought to life themselves.

3D Print & Build: Creative Robots with Velora Studios

Experience the energy of vibrant colors in this immersive painting workshop. We will learn about Post-Impressionism and explore the passionate world of Vincent van Gogh.

Rather than just copying a single painting, students will deeply explore the emotional brushwork of the Post-Impressionist movement. You will learn how to capture nature and emotion through thick, swirling brushstrokes and bold color contrasts.

Mastering the World of Van Gogh with Artemy Kim 

Teen Clay Explorers is a full-day workshop designed for students who have completed at least one or two terms at MAC and are confident working with clay. This is a chance to dive deeper into hand-building and wheel-throwing in a relaxed, explorative environment, where creativity, focus and mindfulness are at the heart of the day.\
\
1 half of the day we will we focus on creating something small and personal — a cute, playful object that encourages experimentation with form, texture and surface. Students have the freedom to explore ideas, make decisions independently and experiment with techniques they have already begun to master. This part of the day is meditative and engaging, giving young artists time to slow down, focus on their hands and enjoy the tactile experience of clay.\
\
After a break, students can choose to continue hand-building or have a go on the pottery wheel. Michelle, will guide them through whichever path they choose, offering support, demonstrations and encouragement while allowing plenty of space for independent exploration. Whether it’s shaping clay on the wheel for the first time or refining hand-building techniques, the emphasis is on curiosity, experimentation and finding joy in making.\
\
Clay Explorers is structured but open-ended — a supportive studio environment where teens can challenge themselves, try new ideas, and develop their own style. It’s a day designed to nurture focus, creativity and mindfulness while producing work they can be proud of.\
\
By the end of the day, students will have created multiple pieces, experimented with techniques they may not have tried before, and experienced the meditative, hands-on flow that makes working with clay so rewarding. These pieces will then be bisque fired and then glazed ready to pick up from the reception.

Teen Clay Explorers: Handbuilding & Wheel  with Michelle O'Loughlin 

In this workshop, the student will be guided to make their own design of their clock, be it their favorite pet, character, food, etc. We will turn their idea into real life! We will build the clock from clay, add attachments and decoration, then color it with underglaze. In the end it will be fired into ceramic to be kept forever. Best of all, it will be functional, just add the clock mechanism, it will tell you time every time you look at it!\
\
**Students must be within the stated Ages : 7 - 14**

FRI 10TH APR~ AGES: 7-14 We will build the clock from clay, add attachments and decoration, then color it with underglaze! Make your own make their own design!

DIY Ceramic Clocks with Livia Mu

Young artists will explore the art of portraiture through observation, technique, and imagination. They will create one dramatic portrait on toned paper using white chalk and charcoal or pencil to explore light and shadow, then paint a second portrait focusing on skin tones and color mixing. Along the way, they’ll practice sketching exercises that will help them to understand facial proportions, expressions, and shading. Students can choose to bring along two portrait references that they would like to work from, or to use the teacher’s portrait references.

Learn how to knit an Easter Bunny using a simple knitted square.  You will knit a small 10x10 cm square in a colour of your choice from yarn supplied. Then you will use cotton stuffing to make the body and ears of the bunny. Decorate with contrast stitching. A fun project to introduce you to the wonderful, creative world of knitting.

Have some sweet teeth? Why not come to join us on this cookie decorating workshop!\

In this workshop, experienced tutor Livia will guide you on decorating cookies with colorful royal icing. Then each student will create their own design to build a gingerbread cottage and decorate it with colorful design. \
\
All material will be provided from council certified kitchen and the tutor Livia holds food safety certificate as well (please be noted: the food ingredients are NOT Gluten free, Dairy free, nor Vegan).\
\
All cookies and the built gingerbread cottage will be taken home in the end of the workshop. They are all edible if you decide to enjoy them or gift them out. Otherwise, if you decide to keep them, they will keep for years as well. \

Students will experiment with broken brushstrokes, colour layering, and expressive mark-making through fun exercises. They will learn to paint shifting light, colourful shadows, and moods, through observing flowers, fruit, and still life objects. In the final session, each student will create a unique painting inspired by a “moment of light” found in nature.
