In this class students will explore how Impressionist painters captured light, color, and movement in everyday scenes. Students will experiment with broken brushstrokes, colour layering, and expressive mark-making through fun exercises. They will learn to paint shifting light, colourful shadows, and moods, through observing flowers, fruit, and still life objects. In the final session, each student will create a unique painting inspired by a “moment of light” found in nature.

\*\*TWO OPTIONS: MONDAY EVE & WED AFTERNOON\*\* In this class, we will learn concepts and techniques that will help us improve our portrait painting skills, using the Old Masters’ works as references. We will discuss concepts such as light, form, colour, and block-in strategies for accurate proportions & will study the characteristics of the different features and how they relate to the whole of the head. We will practice two portraits -- one in grisaille (monochrome), where there will be a strong focus on tone and form, and another using a limited palette, where we will introduce colour concepts. There is also the option to work on a personal portrait if you would prefer that to an Old Master work.

*Suitable for beginners with some painting experience or intermediate artists wishing to refine their portrait techniques.*
